Her imminent choice to either join the dark but seductive world of immortals or to pursue a fully human life has become the thread from which the fates of two tribes hangs. How could you run, how could you fight, when doing so would hurt that beloved one? If your life was all you had to give, how could you not give it? If it was someone you truly loved? When you loved the one who was killing you, it left you no options. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Nude, and clean from their bath, the two women hold each other tightly. In this extract, Nagata asks the escort if they could, simply, hug. The first scene which broaches this issue is Nagata’s account of one of her visits to the escort agency. This idea was broached in the first manga and in my last blog post, but Nagata goes into exponentially more detail in My Solo Exchange Diary. One thing that struck me about this companion manga was the recurring notion of the impossibility of forcing intimacy. These letters include meditations on her realities, her failures, her achievements and her hopes. ![]() In this volume, Nagata writes a diary that she addresses to her past self. This companion manga furthers Nagata’s examination of her intense relationship with her mother and her sense of being untethered from other human beings. In My Solo Exchange Diary: Volume 1 Kabi Nagata outlines the ways in which the publication of My Lesbian Experience with Loneliness has changed her life and examines the bounds of her perpetuating loneliness. ![]() ![]() ![]() But of course, that’s just my personal opinion and others may not feel the same way. I just couldn’t put the book down, ladies! However, if I may offer one small criticism, I felt that some parts of the book towards the end were a bit rushed. Why do some people believe that money equals power? This book illustrates that money isn’t everything. I must say, I received A Love Called Simon by Sandi Lynn this afternoon at around 3 o’clock and now it’s midnight and I’ve finished it! It’s definitely a must-read, and you’ll find yourself asking “Why?!” I think many people can relate to a story like this one, about being mistreated or emotionally neglected. Just make sure to have plenty of tissues nearby! -Dee Sandi Lynn, your writing is improving with each book and I am a very satisfied reader. I don’t want to dissuade anyone from reading it though, as there are also moments of joy and happiness that will bring tears of a different kind. The part that really got to me was the ending, where I couldn’t hold back my tears. It’s hot new and sexy. I love that the author features women in academia and STEM, I mean there really isn’t anything out there like that and when you throw in a hot romance with book and science nerds I think you really have something that stands out. Then I saw this one was coming out and I instantly added it to my review calendar because I just KNEW I would love this book! ![]() I have The Love Hypothesis on audiobook as well as a hard copy and have been meaning to read it. The Three Pigs David Wiesner 4.17 20,166 ratings2,435 reviews Taking visual narrative to a new level, this picture book from the creator of Tuesday and Flotsam begins a seemingly familiar tale of three pigs preparing to build houses of straw, sticks, and bricks. I absolutely love the use of white space and comic-style word bubbles, as well as the narrative itself. David Wiesner lives with his family outside Philadelphia. So, just like I said–intriguing, artistic, and weird. He creates three-dimensional models of objects he can't observe in real life, such as flying pigs and lizards standing upright, to add authenticity to his drawings. ![]() This book takes on a comic-style format which allows the pigs to escape from their panels and into the empty space in the gutters and save other animals. They’re intriguing, artistic, and pleasantly weird. Review: Can someone say metafiction? I’m a total sucker for all of Wiesner’s books. We show that the executives-parties dimension, which measures the diffusion of power within political institutions, indeed makes a difference for populist support. Throughout, consensual systems are hypothesized to display higher support for populist parties than majoritarian systems. ![]() Two institutional dimensions - the executives-parties dimension and the federal - unitary dimension - are drawn from Lijphart's work to analyze the association between patterns of democracy and populism.
